2018 Cork & Barrel Raised 25 percent of the $2.7MM Operating Budget for KIDS Center

The largest wine and food event series in Central Oregon, the annual, three-day Cork & Barrel wine and food event fundraising series, a benefit for KIDS Center of Bend, reported $500,000 in net revenue raised at the 2018 event series. Held annually in July at Broken Top Club in Bend, Cork & Barrel funds 25 percent of the $2.7MM annual operating budget of KIDS Center, the only child abuse intervention center in Central Oregon.

“The need for KIDS Center’s services continues to exist and Cork & Barrel is just one way that the Central Oregon community can come together to ensure that children and families experiencing child abuse receive the vital intervention and therapeutic services that enable them to overcome and reach their fullest potential” stated Shelly Smith, Executive Director.  “Critical support from this event will ensure that KIDS Center continues to meet the ever-changing and growing population in Central Oregon.”

Each year, Cork & Barrel features a different wine region in Central Oregon. Seventeen wineries from throughout Sonoma County were featured over three days during the 2018 Cork & Barrel event series. The Executive Chef at 10Below restaurant in the Oxford Hotel, Chef Darrell Henrichs, executed a fantastically-received five-course meal for 430 guests at the Grand Cru gala dinner. And, with much anticipation, Southern Oregon was unveiled as the 2019 Cork & Barrel wine region.

Contributing Editor for Wine Enthusiast magazine, Paul Gregutt, has lauded the Southern Oregon wine region. “The story of Oregon wine no longer begins and ends with Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, as many of the state’s most exciting new offerings hail from Southern Oregon.”

The Southern Oregon Winery Association website relays, “Southern Oregon’s latitude and prevailing oceanic winds create a seven month European-like growing season that distinguishes it from all other west coast (and American) growing regions and this uniquely defines, identifies and unifies (Southern Oregon) as an ideal place to grow wine grapes.”

KIDS Center looks forward to bringing wineries from Southern Oregon to Central Oregon for the 7th annual Cork & Barrel wine and food event series, held July 18-20, 2019. Fine wines from up to 18 wineries, represented by winemakers and winery principals from the throughout Southern Oregon wine country and including the Rogue Valley AVA, Applegate Valley AVA, Umpqua Valley AVA, Red Hill Douglas County AVA and Elkton AVA, will be present in Central Oregon for the 2019 Cork and Barrel. Early bird tickets for A Sip of Cork & Barrel are on sale at corkandbarrel.org. 450+ guests attended A Sip of Cork & Barrel in 2018.
