BEND, Ore. – Oregon State University – Cascades invites individuals interested in teaching at the early childhood, elementary, middle or high school level to attend an Information Session with the faculty and staff of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs. The sessions will be held in Cascades Hall on Wednesday, October 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will cover the MAT program requirements and admissions procedures, as well as the application process and deadlines.
OSU-Cascades’ full-time MAT degree programs follow a cohort model with students taking the same classes at the same time. The programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and include student teaching experience in local public schools. Both programs begin in June 2012 and conclude in the summer of the following year.
The elementary teaching degree program provides graduates with a master’s degree and an Oregon Initial I teaching license with authorizations in early childhood education and elementary education, serving age three through grade eight.
The secondary teaching degree program for middle and high school provides graduates with a master’s degree and an Oregon Initial I Teaching License with authorizations to teach language arts or social studies in grades five through 12; both options provide English as a Second Language (ESOL) emphasis.
The application deadline for the 2012-13 academic year is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011. Prerequisite courses are offered throughout the 2011-12 academic year.
