Monies raised by the organization will go directly to support United Way’s mission to create fundamental lasting change in the county, particularly focused on four key priorities: meeting people’s most basic needs, giving every child an opportunity for a good start on life, protecting the most vulnerable from violence and abuse, and keeping youth on track for success.
United Way’s work covers the entire lifespan—from the unique needs of infants through pressing needs of childhood, adolescence, adulthood and the aging.
Thanks to the efforts, involvement and generosity of Deschutes County residents, area businesses and organizations, progress is being made! Last year, United Way helped fund human service programs in Deschutes County that touched the lives of more than 72,000 individuals. Nearly one-in-three residents of the county, of all ages and from every walk of life, needed a helping hand…and received it. For some it was the first time they had ever asked for help—a truly humbling experience. Thanks to United Way supporters, these local people received the help they so desperately needed.
Volunteer Campaign Chair, Jeff Ludeman, shares the following message with Deschutes County individuals and businesses, “I want to express how excited we are to surpass our goal, but also remind everyone that our work is not finished. The need is still greater than ever for those in our community and many people may still not yet be served. The more we can raise the more people we are able to help. I love the people in our community and want to see them continue to progress. I am very grateful for the outpouring of support we have seen so far. I look forward to completing this campaign cycle strong.”
United Way of Deschutes County investments are yielding results. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the resulting United Way financial assistance to area programs, each year nearly 700 local children and families who have experienced abuse receive comprehensive evaluation, special support and healing therapy. One program alone distributed over 2 million pounds of food last year. These are just two examples out of many. More results like this will be possible in the coming year, thanks to United Way supporters and a successful fundraising campaign.

“We’ve met the goal, but not the need…..yet. Every additional donation received from now through June means we help more people, or, help people more,” stated Ken Wilhelm, longtime executive director of United Way of Deschutes County.
Thanks to the unparalleled support of the community, there will be food, shelter and hope for those in Deschutes County who need it most.
