Developed Recreation Sites need Passes: May 1 to September 30
Visitors using developed recreation sites on the Deschutes National Forest will need recreation passes. To make buying passes easier, new on-line purchase options are being offered.
Recreation passes at developed recreation sites on the Deschutes National Forest are required from May 1 to September 30. No recreation pass will be needed at Crane Prairie until July when docks are reinstalled.
Visitors have several options for passes:
- National Forest Recreation Day-Use Passes are $5.00 and Northwest Forest Passes (Annual) are $30.00. Both passes can be purchased on-line and from Forest Service Offices and local vendors. In some cases, day-use passes can be purchased on-site using fee tubes. Day-Use Passes purchased on-line are mailed so they must be purchased in advance of the day a visitor is planning to use the pass.
- Interagency Annual Pass may be purchased on-line or from Forest Service Offices.
- Interagency Senior Pass, Interagency Access Pass, Interagency Volunteer Pass, Interagency Military Pass, and Golden Age Pass are honored at fee sites. These passes can only be purchased or received from Forest Service offices.

Ninety-five percent of the revenue from Northwest Forest Passes remains in the local area for facility maintenance, interpretive services, and ecosystem protection.
During the remainder of the year, passes are not required at designated sites because of reduced services due to low use and questionable access due to weather.
