Rethink Waste, one of the core programs of The Environmental Center (TEC), focuses on the importance, benefits and how-tos of waste prevention including food waste, recycling right, reuse, composting and repair. This is accomplished through community presentations, outreach events, an online presence and special projects focused on specific materials in our waste stream and/or specific community needs. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Project Coordinator will help to develop and deliver a pilot project to increase recycling in multifamily housing complexes in Bend and Redmond. This a grant-funded, time-limited project that will focus on four Housing Works multifamily complexes; the project will likely be completed by the end of 2020 but no later than January 2020.
This is a part-time, 20 hours/week position, with between 760-800 total hours from approximately March through December. The work schedule will vary depending on the program implementation timeline. During program implementation (approximately April – October), evening and weekend work will be required. Day-to-day and week-to-week hours will vary and can be flexible.
This position reports to the Rethink Waste Program Manager and collaborates with other TEC staff in our Youth Education Department as well as employees of Housing Works and EPIC Property Management, who own and operate the housing complexes.
POSITION SCOPE AND DUTIES:
This position will work collaboratively with the Rethink Waste Program Manager to design the project model and then lead its implementation. Specifics include:
- Research and use data from other recycling communities as necessary
- Develop written and electronic educational materials relevant to community groups, with support from other TEC staff and an outside design agency as needed
- Work with outside organizations to develop and schedule program timeline
- Deliver programming in-person to each unit of the multifamily communities, which will include travel to Bend and Redmond complexes for tabling/presentation educational events and for door-to-door conversations
- Initiate and maintain communication with individuals through phone and online platforms as needed
- Write a final report of lessons learned and recommended best practices to share with other multifamily complexes, including a concise informational sheet about what was accomplished, what worked, and what didn’t

WE CAN OFFER…
This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time, hourly position. The base wage range is $16.50 to $17.50 per hour, depending on experience. Bilingual-bicultural candidates will be compensated 10% above the base wage. Benefits include a $100/month stipend in lieu of health benefits. Sick time is also accrued.
