Long-standing Central Oregon group presents two important lectures addressing the region’s built environment.
Nonprofit organization Building a Better Bend, which seeks to positively impact the development and growth of Bend, announced its fall lecture schedule for 2012. The group, which has been active since 2003, secures expert speakers who present innovative ideas for sustainable growth and creates discussions on how to apply these ideas to the local community.
This year, Morgan Brown from Whole Water Systems will speak on sustainable wastewater solutions on September 15 and David C Bagnoli from McGraw Bagnoli Architects will speak on small city college campuses on October 23. For the first time, access to the lectures will be free for all attendees. Both lectures will be held in the Riverbend Room at the Bend Parks and Recreation Building at 799 SW Columbia Street in Bend.

Brown will talk about trends in decentralization, sustainability, resource recovery and biomimicry. PRESENTER: David C. Bagnoli, AIA, LEED AP, BD+C, McGraw Bagnoli Architects
DESCRIPTION: Bagnoli will discuss ways that educational institutions can physically integrate campus buildings into surrounding neighborhoods while minimizing traffic and other impacts. He will address the physical, economic and transportation challenges and opportunities created by colleges in small cities and describe how such institutions have engaged their surroundings to various degrees.
