Newberry Habitat for Humanity named 2012 recipient of annual charity event

Warm your ovens, Central Oregon! Registration is now open for Sunriver Resort’s 17th annual Gingerbread Junction. This cherished community event encourages companies, students and individuals to create Gingerbread Homes that are at least 51 percent edible to be displayed in the Sunriver Resort Main Lodge throughout the holiday season. Funds raised from “lot” placement in the display, along with a matching contribution from Sunriver Resort, go to support a worthy charity. This year, the Newberry Habitat for Humanity has been named the honored recipient.

The 2012 Gingerbread Junction Village will include three “lot” options – small, medium and large selling for $15, $25 and $50 respectively. Participants must register by Wednesday, November 14, 2012 and bring completed homes to one of three community drop sites November 17 – 19. Homes will be judged and prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a variety of categories while on display at the 2012 Gingerbread Village in the Abbot Room at the Sunriver Resort Main Lodge beginning the eve of Grand Illumination, held annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Those interested can learn more by visiting the Sunriver Resort website.

A true sign that the holiday season has arrived, Gingerbread Junction marks the beginning of Sunriver Resort’s annual Traditions festival, which features a variety of holiday-themed events and activities from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day. This year, the houses will be on display at the Sunriver Resort Main lodge until December 30.

The 2011 Gingerbread Junction Village raised $2,330 for St. Charles Foundation’s Children’s Heart Fund through the sale of nearly 40 “lots” and matching contributions from Sunriver Resort.
