August 18, 2020 marks the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the transformative 19th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Carol Loesche, President of League of Women Voters of Deschutes County, has participated in two events today. In the morning, a plaque was presented to the Deschutes County Clerk in appreciation of the efforts to ensure that elections are conducted according to statute. Midday, Carol will speak at the celebratory event of the She Gets to Vote! quilt display at Beacham’s Clock Co. in Sisters. “The League of Women Voters organization is, also, celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year and we are proud to carry on the tradition of fighting for equal voting rights for all,” says Carol.

The plaque presentation was scheduled for 8am at the Deschutes County Clerk’s office and was not open to the public due to COVID-19 considerations. Carol congratulated Nancy Blankenship on her excellent service of election administration from 2003 to the present.

The Quilts of Central Oregon sponsored event occurred from 12-1pm at 300 W Hood Avenue in Sisters. The League of Women Voters of Deschutes County has been excited to be included in this special occasion. COVID-19 practices were enforced including mask wearing, hand sanitizing and indoor population control. Quilts will be on display August 18, 20, 21 and 22 during business hours of 9:30am-5pm.
