They say it’s a man’s world, and it’s true that men have been given certain advantages over women over the years. Some have even gotten away with bad behavior.

In this article, we present three seemingly ordinary manly or macho behaviors that can get any man in trouble if they are not careful.

Physical altercations

Watch a movie now and you’ll easily see scenes where men engage in fist fights and other forms of physical violence. Such scenes surely look cool in action flicks, but you have to be very careful with acting them out in real life. Physically hurting someone is a serious offence that can land you in jail. Even intimidation of others or mere attempts to hurt them can be grounds for legal action. If you are not careful, you might end up needing the services of a good simple or aggravated assault attorney.

Next time you get into a disagreement with your peers, it’s better to just talk things out. Avoid physical altercations as much as possible. The other party might take matters a little too seriously and bring your issue to court. Now, that’s an annoyance that you surely wouldn’t want.

“Out-of-bound” jokes

If you’ve read the news from the recent years, you are probably aware that too many high-ranking men and women in business have either resigned or been fired from their jobs after it’s been revealed that they were instrumental in creating a workplace environment that discriminated against someone or a group of people.

In Nike for example, a group of women complained about the increasingly toxic culture inside the sports apparel giant. They alleged that men were engaging in talks and behaviors that alienated women, such as staff outings in strip clubs and seemingly normal sexist jokes/banters. Though this did not reach the courts, this complaint actually led to the departure of many male executives from Nike.

Hypothetically, will such allegations hold water in court? They might. There’s such a legal concept as workplace harassment, and among the elements that the courts look into is the creation of an environment that is hostile and/or offensive to the complainant. If your jokes about a woman’s body or the way they dress make at least one person uncomfortable in your workplace, you better stop before things get more complicated.

Driving while intoxicated

Everyone knows that driving under the influence or while intoxicated is illegal. We mention it here only because far too many people still get arrested for drinking and driving.

Just to be safe, it’s best to keep the driver sober when you go out. Yes, there’s an allowable level of alcohol in the driver’s bloodstream; but seriously, does any of us have any means to measure it before driving? When apprehended, police officers will most likely judge the driver by the way they smell. We all know how strong the smell of alcohol is. They are a bit strict with drivers who drink because drunk-driving has been a leading cause of accidents for many years now.

Indeed, our world has become more and more aware. There is now an even bigger need to police our own behaviors if we want to steer clear of trouble.
