The Railway Recruitment Board or RRB, administered by the Ministry of Railways, conducts exams for different posts. They recruit candidates by conducting exams for technical as well as non-technical posts in the Indian Railways. Thousands of vacancies are released every year by RRB for the post of Junior Engineer (JE), Paramedical, Non-technical Popular Categories (NTPC), Level 1 Group D, Ministerial and Isolated Categories (MI) posts.

Types of RRB exams 2021
There are four main categories of the RRB exams:

RRB exam eligibility
The eligibility criteria for the exams will vary according to the RRB post. Here is a detailed explanation of eligibility criteria for all the RRB exams 2021:
- RRB NTPC
- The undergraduate posts have an age requirement of 18 to 33 years whereas the graduate posts have an age limit of 18 to 33 years as well.
- For the undergraduate posts, the candidate must have passed the class 12th or equivalent and for the graduate posts, the candidate should have a valid graduation degree.
- RRB ALP
- The age limit for this exam is 18 to 28 years.
- For the ALP position, candidates must have passed class 10th/SSLC and ITI/CCAAs (Course Completed Act Apprentices) or have a diploma/degree in engineering. For the technician position, candidates should have finished their class 10th/SSLC along with ITI/CCAAs or finished 10+2 with Maths and Physics or have a diploma in engineering.
- RRB Group D
- The age requirement for this position is 18 to 33 years.
- All the candidates must have completed their 10th from an institute recognized by the SCVT/NCVT or equivalent or they must have their National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by the NCVT.
- RRB JE
- The age requirement for this position is 18 to 33 years.
- Here is the educational qualification required for different roles under the JE position:
- JE post – The candidate needs to have a three years diploma in civil, mechanical, production, electrical, electronics, automobile, instrumentation and control, tools and machining, computer science, tools and die making, or computer engineering or have a B.Sc. in civil engineering from a recognized institute or university.
- DMS – The candidate should have finished their three-year diploma in engineering or equivalent from any recognized university.
- JE (IT) – The candidate should have a B.Sc. (Computer Science), DOEACC ‘B’ level course of three years, PGDCA, B.Tech in Information Technology or Computer Science, or equivalent.
- CMA – The candidate should have a degree in science with chemistry and physics and scored at least 55% marks.
The Recruitment process for RRB 2021
All the candidates appearing for the RRB exams will have to take an online Computer Based Test (CBT). The RRB will fix the cut-off for all the categories. Candidates who qualify for the exam will be invited to the recruitment process.
- The positions of Commercial Apprentice (CA), Enquiry Cum Reservation Clerk (ECRC), Traffic Apprentice (TA), and Goods Guard don’t require the candidate to go through any further rounds after qualifying their CBT exams. They will be called for verifying their documents. Once the document verification is completed, they will be considered for the appointment and have to go through joining formalities like medical tests.
- Candidates who applied for the position of Junior Account Assistant, Senior Time Keeper, and Senior Clerk and qualified for the CBT exam will have to take a typing test. Based on the marks in the CBT exam and the typing test, a merit list will be published and candidates will be invited for verification of their documents according to their merit number.
Please note that under the RRB recruitment, the candidates who want to apply for the Traffic Assistant and Assistant Station Master have to clear the Aptitude test after qualifying for the RRB online test. The merit list will be prepared by taking 70% weightage from the CBT exam and the remaining 30% from the aptitude test. The candidates who qualify will be invited for document verification.
Applying for the RRB exam
All candidates who want to apply for the RRB exam have to follow the below-mentioned steps:
- Visit the official website of RRB and select the desired RRB exam. Click on the ‘Apply now’ button.
- Enter the details and verify the registered mobile number through the one-time password. Hit ‘Submit’ for finishing the registration process.
- Provide the education, category, and gender details.
- Upload the signature and scanned photo. Make sure that they are in the right dimension or else they won’t upload successfully.
- Finish the payment process and save the online application form.
RRB exam admit card
The candidates will be able to download their admit cards four days before their exam. The different exam stages have different admit cards. Candidates have to log in using their credentials to download the admit card. It will contain information about the candidate’s personal details and the exam.
