Bend City Councilor Victor Chudowsky Clarifies Support for Public Hearing on Transient Room Tax Increase

In a Cascade Business News Headline News eblast last week it stated that Councilor Victor Chudowsky opposed a public hearing for a citizen group’s request to increase Bend’s TRT rate two percentage points.  The public hearing was requested for June 19.  In an email to CBN, Chudowsky states that was incorrect. “If you go back and check the record you will see that I clearly stated that I am in favor of a roundtable discussion on June 17 and a public hearing on June 19.”

“I also stated that I am not in favor of the current proposal due to the fact that the area’s largest tourist draw, Mt Bachelor, as well as Bend‘s largest hotels and convention center, were not involved in the crafting of this proposal,” said Chudowsky.  “On February 6, the Council recommended the creation of a Committee to iron out differences on this issue among the various parties. To date, that has not happened, so we hope to start that process, belatedly, on June 17.”
