Construction and remodeling projects are underway on the COCC Bend and Redmond campuses. The majority of the construction funding comes from a $41.58-million bond measure approved by voters in 2009 and state funding.
The Technology Education Center, on the corner of Veterans Way and Salmon Drive in Redmond, will house technology-centered programs. The majority of the footings have been formed and placed. Walls on the south side of the building are being constructed. The opening date is September 2014.
The purpose of the $1.3-million Grandview Renovation Project is to consolidate the math department into one location and provide SMART math lab space adjacent to math department offices. Sunwest Builders was the low bidder. During June, the wall framing and mechanical electrical and plumbing rough-ins were completed. Completion is scheduled for September 2013.
The Residence Hall project, expected to provide housing for approximately 330 students, continues with design changes to bring the project within budget. In June the COCC Board of Directors approved proceeding to the design development phase. Public information sessions were held. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2015.
COCC has purchase the BrightSide Animal Cente rin Redmond and a small portion of the center will be remodeled into a lab space for the new Veterinary Technician program. The remodel will potentially consist of two phases. The first phase will remodel a 1,300-sqaure-foot area into a pharmacy lab, cat room, procedure room and one faculty office. This space— coupled with temporary use of local veterinary facilities—will enable the program to be accredited by the state of Oregon. CA Rowels Engineering is working on the partitioning the property and paperwork has been submitted to the city for a preliminary review.
