Hints of fall are appearing around Central Oregon, and in addition to a busy month of programming ahead, Oregon Adaptive Sports has begun planning for its 25th winter season, which kicks off this December. As part of that effort, we are inviting the community to once again gather with us for the second annual First Chair fundraiser on October 12. The event will again primarily be virtual, with the opportunity to join in from anywhere across the globe. First Chair will feature OAS highlights from the past year, exciting plans for the months ahead and an exclusive preview of the film ADAPTED, which tells the story of three OAS athletes embarking on mega adventures across the West.

OAS Magic Moment
In 2019, OAS crafted a vision to expand its community cycling program. The hope was to create a semi-permanent adaptive cycling center that over time would dramatically increase access to this universally healthy and active sport. Thanks to funding from the Craig H Neilsen Foundation and the Christopher and Dana Reeves foundation, OAS saw that vision come to life this summer with the acquisition of two enclosed trailers that housed a few dozen adaptive cycles, which were made available for all to use twice a week from June through August. Thanks to support from the Bend Park and Recreation District, OAS secured a location for these trailers at Pine Nursery Park, which provided for seamless and consistent program offerings. Athletes, family, staff and volunteers participated in over 600 hours of cycling this summer through this program alone, and these opportunities were offered at no cost to all attendees thanks to support from these foundations and all of OAS’ generous donors. OAS and Cycle Oregon
In continuation of the partnership established in 2019, OAS will again be working with Cycle Oregon to support athletes with disabilities on a multi-day cycling experience. OAS is welcoming up to five adaptive cyclists, plus a family member/friend/caregiver to participate in the Tygh Valley Rally from September 17-19. As of now, this opportunity is full. Stay tuned to OAS marketing channels to learn more about the experience as it unfolds.
Winter is Coming
The 25th OAS winter season kicks off this December, and we are gearing up to make it the BEST SEASON EVER. Look for announcements about new and returning volunteer training, instructor hiring and lesson sign-ups over the next several weeks.
