Locavore Food School Now in Session

0

Too often busy parents rely on pre-packaged foods to stuff lunch boxes and serve up as after-school snacks. But keeping little ones healthy can be so much more satisfying. The October 29 edition of the Locavore Food School aims to give parents the ideas and knowledge they need to make crackers, fruit sauces, fruit leathers and more.

Let an experienced instructor teach you the ins and outs of making healthy snacks to keep your kids energized without all the preservatives and additives found in most store-bought products.
Then, Susan Rutter of The Pure Ingredients will take over, demonstrating how to make Kitchari, an ayurvedic rice and legume staple. This one-woman personal chef spends her days working closely with families to help them eat a diet of fresh, local and organic products. She also offers in-home catering for parties, vacation meals and special events.

Classes like these are just one of the ways that Central Oregon Locavore, a nonprofit organization that’s been promoting a sustainable food system in this region since 2010, fulfills its mission of connecting our community with local food. Locavore promotes a more ecologically and socially just food system that supports greater community wellness, public health and diversification of the local economy.
