The NW Riverside/Franklin Bike & Pedestrian Safety Project is scheduled to be completed on Halloween. Bend Bikes invites you to join the celebration in what’s been achieved and what might be improved upon.
Protected bikes lanes, high-visibility sidewalks, detached bulb-outs, recessed rumble strips and green striping for some bike lanes were all over three years in the making in a project which will serve to add critical safety infrastructure along a major east/west corridor in Bend.
On November 2 at 11am meet at the Connecting Point parking lot at 514 NW Franklin Avenue in Bend. From there, we’ll tour Franklin Ave. and Riverside Boulevard towards Drake Park. Along the way we’ll stop and evaluate each of the project’s new bike and pedestrian features.
“Improving bike riding and walking facilities creates connected communities and neighborhoods, which fosters healthy active transportation in Bend,” says a founding member of Bend Bikes, Pam Hardy. “Look for more bike and walking enhancements in the next three years.”
From the Galveston Bridge, we’ll head back towards downtown with our review ending at Bend Electric Bikes on 223 NW Hill St. The event is free and refreshments will be provided.
