One of the 80 grants awarded in Deschutes County was to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon in Bend. The $18,000 grant was for year two of three years’ potential support for the BE GREAT: Graduate initiative to help middle and high school youth with their educational goals and career preparation.
A Circle of Friends, Oregon, in Sisters received $15,000 for year one of two years’ potential support to increase the number of at-risk children served by trained volunteer mentors, teachers and administrators.
OCF also announced a $78,415 grant to serve Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs youth as part of a new K-12 Student Success grant program. The grant has been awarded to expand and improve culturally based out-of-school time curriculum for Native American students in the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The three-year K-12 Student Success grant program focuses on quality out-of-school time programs that are designed to increase student engagement with school and boost academic performance.
In all, The Oregon Community Foundation awarded more than $522,000 in grants to Central Oregon nonprofits during their recent fall grant cycle and more than $8.4 million statewide.
Additional grants in the region included:
Backpacks in Bend, $8,000 for a third and final year of support to provide food-insecure K-12 students in 15 schools with meals to take home over the weekend.
Deschutes Family Recovery, Inc., Bend, $5,215 to provide medical/dental care and housing assistance to parents enrolled in the family drug court program.
Deschutes Land Trust, Bend, $25,000 for year one of three years’ potential support to expand the “Walk + Hike” program, which engages participants in tours of protected land and helps build membership.
Fossil School District 21J Education Foundation, Fossil, $15,000 to provide Automatic External Defibrillators for sheriff’s cars, schools, county buildings and senior centers.
Libraries of Eastern Oregon, Fossil, $10,000 for general support.
St. Vincent de Paul of Crook County, Prineville, $13,300 for repair and maintenance of vehicles used for deliveries to the local food bank.
