The High Desert Design Council seeks donations of time and materials as membersbegin updating Bend’s Ronald McDonald House.
Members of the High Desert Design Council (HDDC) toured the guest rooms and common areas of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Oregon last week to kick off the council’s 2014 philanthropic project: “Refreshing the House that Love Built.”HDDC members are donating time and resources—and drumming up support from businessesand local contractors—to spruce up the six guest rooms of the Ronald McDonald House in Bend, a haven for out of town families with hospitalized children.
According to project chair, Charmaine Manley, a fourteen person committee of HDDC membersinterior designers, artists, architects and local business people are involved in the project. Design teams are developing ideas for each guest room and attached bath. Trim painting,donated by HDDC member Webfoot Painting, will start at the end of February. Interior designwork will continue throughout the year.
HDDC is counting on strong community support—and donations—to freshen up Bend’s RonaldMcDonald House. “Overall the structure is in excellent shape, but after 17 years, the interior islooking drab and dated,” explained Manley. The HDDC welcome all volunteers interested in thejoining the project. Ronald McDonald House and the HDDC are also seeking charitabledonations to complete the project. Bend’s Ronald McDonald House was built by hundreds of community volunteers usingall donated materials. The charity opened its doors in 1997 and has served more than 2,700families in Central and Eastern Oregon.
Ronald McDonald House functions as a “home away from home” for out of town pediatric patients and their families seeking medical treatment in Bend. The HDDC selects a community based philanthropic project each year. Last year, HDDCmembers remodeled the bathroom of the Saving Grace emergency shelter with donations andsupport from several local businesses.
