The Environmental Center is excited to host their first ever Local Energy Forum on Saturday, November 19, from 9:30am to 3:30pm at the OSU Extension Service in Redmond (3800 SW, SE Airport Way, Building #4). This forum will bring together stakeholders and community members to learn more about energy planning and prompt discussions around the future of energy in Deschutes County.
“Where our energy comes from and how we use it are important factors in shaping our communities in Central Oregon,” says Grace Andrews, who has been working over the past year on sustainable energy programs as a R.A.R.E. service member at The Environmental Center and Sustainable Northwest. “The Environmental Center is exploring how we can move forward in the transition to renewable energy by developing a county-level energy plan that can benefit the environment and the economy.”
The event will include catered lunch and beverages, speaker presentations and table discussion sessions to engage attendees on the topic and with one another. One notable speaker on the agenda is Lindsay McClure of the Mid–Columbia Economic Development District, who has worked to develop and implement a successful Hood River Energy Plan. Other speakers include representatives from Kôr Community Land Trust, Bend-La Pine School District and Commissioner Phil Chang. Attendees are encouraged to join to ask questions, learn more about our current energy systems here in Central Oregon and get involved in identifying next steps for energy planning based on what they learn.
