The Leadership Bend Class of 2014 is hosting a half-day “taste” of the nine-month Leadership Bend program. The conference will feature highlights of the complete program and raise funds for program scholarships. It will be held on Thursday, May 29 from 1-5pm at Wille Hall on the COCC campus, followed by a catered networking reception from 5-7pm at Elevate, the Cascades Culinary Institute.
“The program has been preparing city leaders for 22 years, introducing class members to the people who influence our community and providing hands-on training on how things are accomplished in Bend,” said Stephanie Senner, president of Leadership Bend Class of 2014. “Knowing that many people are not able to take the time for the full experience, we wanted to highlight some key topics and leaders for a broader audience in a half-day format.”
A Taste of Leadership Bend will focus on key historical events that have shaped Bend’s culture, and showcase a panel of local leaders that will talk about their own lessons learned and what future leaders of the area will need to prosper.
Confirmed speakers include City Counselor Mark Capell, Attorney Neil Bryant, Seven Peaks Ventures owner Dino Vendetti, City Manager Eric King, Deschutes Brewery President Gary Fish, Carolyn Eagan with BEDAB, Johanna Hershenson with the Temple Beth Tkvah and Marla Hacker from OSU Cascades.
Cost of the program is $30 and includes the catered event. Proceeds will be used to raise funds for future Leadership Bend scholarships for veterans, students, start-up entrepreneurs and non-profit leaders. Alumni of the program are especially encouraged to attend, and may choose to attend only the networking portion to reconnect with other program graduates.
