Changes are happening at IronHorse, Prineville’s first master-planned neighborhood which is being developed by long-time Central Oregon real estate company, Brooks Resources. Many locals and visitors may have already seen some of these changes taking place, including the extension of Combs Flat Road, which will now become the main entrance to the neighborhood. The developer and city extended the road as part of their larger traffic plan for the growing area.
But that’s not the only exciting change in store. The IronHorse master plan has been modified to include several amenities as needs continue to shift within the greater community. Brooks Resources is currently negotiating a land sale option with Pacific Crest Housing, which aims to build a 52-unit senior affordable housing facility on 4.5 acres just north of the residential area off of Wayfinder Drive. Pacific Crest has built similar facilities with great success in Bend and LaPine, including the Discovery Park Lodge in NorthWest Crossing.
Outdoor recreation enthusiasts will also be happy to hear that the popular IronHorse trail system, which runs up Barnes Butte and leads to public lands atop Barnes Butte, was expanded late last year. It now includes a full loop that is approximately four miles, and is the host location of several community events including the “Keep on Track Fund Run” on May 3 which benefits the Crook County middle school and high school track and field programs.
Hikers can see 360 degree views of the surrounding high desert landscape from the trails, plus gain access to Barnes Butte and surrounding public lands. Probably the most discussed new development in IronHorse, and Prineville as a whole, is the new elementary school being built within the neighborhood. Solving a number of issues, including capacity problems, within the Crook County school district, the new school is scheduled to open Fall 2015. The planned facility has a pod concept, where groups of five classrooms are built around a common area. The school will be two floors and approximately 70,000 square feet.
The residential portion of IronHorse also continues to build out, offering custom homesites with sweeping views all the way to completed family homes for sale by Central Oregon builders. IronHorse is a sustainable community with all homes built to Earth Advantage standards for energy and resource efficiency all the way to indoor air quality.
Future neighborhood plans include a small commercial area and public parks. All this settled right into a breathtaking landscape to the northwest of one of Oregon’s most picturesque small towns, Prineville.
