Calling Anthropologie “just another new store” in Bend is a little like calling Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour “just another concert.”
No, Anthropologie’s grand opening in the Old Mill District on Wednesday, Aug. 30, brings with it a unique, immersive retail experience that has locals buzzing with excitement.
Doors open at 10am with the first 100 guests receiving a surprise gift from Anthropologie. Local food vendors will be part of the celebration from 12-7pm.
“I cannot wait,” said Bend resident and Anthropologie super fan Lyndsey Hendrix. “It has a little bit of everything. It brings so much joy whenever you walk inside. It smells so good the second you walk in…and everything is so colorful. It’s just the happiest store, and I’m so excited for it to be in Bend finally.”
Located at 325 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 110, across from Avalon Salon & Spa and Evoke Winery, Anthropologie’s lifestyle brand is in constant conversation with its thoughtful, creative-minded community. Over the course of three decades, Anthropologie has evolved from women’s clothing to a full lifestyle shopping experience. The brand’s offerings now include shoes, accessories, beauty, furniture, home décor, garden and bridal.
“They’re going to be an amazing addition to the district,” said Beau Eastes, marketing director for the Old Mill District. “Anthropologie is one of those iconic retail brands that will elevate everyone around them.”
Anthropologie opened its first store in Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1992. Part of the URBN brand portfolio that includes Urban Outfitters and Free People, Anthropologie now operates more than 200 stores across the globe. The Old Mill District store will be Anthropologie’s third in Oregon and the first in the state outside of the Portland metro area. Store hours in the Old Mill District will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily.
“It’s something that really triggers the senses,” Bend store manager Amanda Schuldes said about the 7,500-square-foot location in the north end of the Old Mill District. “It’s a mix between nostalgic and modern. There’s a touch of whimsy, adventure and travel.”
Schuldes said the upcoming Bend store is housed in a smaller footprint than many of Anthropologie’s other locations, giving the spot a more boutique feel.
“There’s a gallery element to the space and folks say they can get lost within that space,” Schuldes said. “A lot of (customers) say it’s their happy place. They want to stay and explore and linger.”
Just a week out from opening, Schuldes is putting the final touches on assembling a team that’s very customer service-focused and one that will be happy to guide new guests through the Anthropologie experience.
Hendrix, the longtime Bend fan, is already planning for her first visit and has nothing but high expectations for the store’s success in the Old Mill District.
“Oh, it’s going to thrive in Bend, 100 percent,” she said, adding with a laugh, “if nothing else through my friends’ group alone.”
