Since 2005, Consumer Cellular has grown its customer base from 30,000 to 1.5 million, its revenue from $17 million to $354 million, and its workforce from 30 employees to more than 1,000 (460 are based in Redmond). Company commemorates by gifting $150,000 each to three, employee-selected charitable organizations.

Consumer Cellular, the exclusive wireless provider for AARP members, has reached 1.5 million customers — noteworthy growth since reaching its 1 million customer achievement in early 2013. To mark the milestone, Consumer Cellular will donate $150,000 apiece to American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project, the three national charities selected by its employees.

“It’s been a momentous year and we couldn’t be more grateful for the loyal support of our customers, and the continued hard work of our dedicated employees,” said Consumer Cellular CEO John Marick. “Since this great success is due in large part to our employees’ unwavering commitment, it was important to us that our employees play a major role in selecting the three charities for our commemorative donation – we are very proud to make this contribution on behalf of our customers and employees.”

Selected exclusively by Consumer Cellular’s 1,000-plus employee base, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project will each receive $150,000 in celebration of the 1.5 million customer mark. This milestone and donation comes on the heels of the company reaching one million customers in February 2013, when the company split $1 million between its employees and five national charities.

Consumer Cellular continues its impressive growth trend, fueled by the company’s focus on an underserved market: adults over 50 who do not wish to be confined by long-term contracts or the rigidity of typical pre- and post-paid options. In contrast to other wireless providers, Consumer Cellular allows customers to switch plans at any time without penalty and provides phones and plans that are affordable, flexible and designed to fit their customers’ unique needs.
