Today, Redmond City Council will be seeking public comment on the current prohibition of psilocybin service centers within city limits. In the November 2022 General Election, Redmond voters approved a ballot measure which placed a two-year moratorium/ban on psilocybin service centers. The moratorium expires on December 31, 2024 (unless extended).
Council has two primary options: let the current moratorium sunset, allowing the Oregon Health Authority to begin accepting applications for the establishment of psilocybin services centers in Redmond beginning January 2025; or Council can refer a ballot measure to be voted on at the 2024 General Election which extends the moratorium within the city limits.
This evening’s Council discussion is intended to be informational and provide an opportunity for citizen input on psilocybin service centers. Any decision to put the issue on the ballot would likely not be made until the July 9 or July 23, Council meeting.
Residents are encouraged to provide Council with feedback in-person. City Council Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6pm. Meetings are hosted in the City Council Chambers, 411 SW Ninth Street in Redmond.
