The Hungry Hound, Bend’s most unique and fun new food cart is serving up delicious, gourmet meals just for your canine companions!

The cart opened to much fanfare at the OnTap food cart lot on April 20 with an event

dubbed WoofFest. Street Dog Hero, The Humane Society and Tesla had booths at the event and dozens of happy hounds chomped down on ¼ Hounders with cheese, Canine Catch salmon bowls and Bark-B-Q platters! All the gourmet meals are served on frisbees and come with a side of sweet potato fries and rice with organic bone broth gravy.

Bryan Du Toit, a self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur started developing the idea behind the Hungry Hound when one day last summer after adopting a new puppy, he and his wife were on their way to OnTap (coincidentally where the first cart is now situated) to get some pizza when his wife joked “I wish we could bring Romeo (the new puppy), I wish there was a food cart for dogs!” They laughed about how fun it would be to get their dogs a healthy cheeseburger, some ‘bone broth beer’ or some desserts. Then suddenly something clicked in Du Toit’s mind and it was no longer a joking matter. “This idea might actually work in a dog-loving town like Bend” he thought, and after months of deep diving into education about healthy canine cuisine, and a few in depth conversations with veterinarians, the ‘joke’ became a reality.

Within the first week of opening its doors, The Hungry Hound became a local tourist attraction by being listed on Visit Bend’s official tourism website as one of the six off beat things to see when coming to Bend! Du Toit was also constantly being invited to bring the cart to many private events by companies like Ruffware, Juniper Preserve and Street Dog Hero, prompting Du Toit to buy another mobile cart which is now booked for dozens of dog- themed events throughout the summer.

The Hungry Hound is also hosting and sponsoring their own events, with the next big event the First Annual Doggolympics being held in partnership with Greg’s Grill in The Old Mill on Saturday, August 10, coinciding with the closing ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympic games. Sprints, high jumps and best trick are just some of the events to expect, with many talented dogs of all breeds competing for great prizes and furry fame!
