Bend’s New Dating App for Restaurant-Goers

The Jolly App, LLC announced the release of a matchmaking app for restaurants that connects users with restaurants in Deschutes County and beyond based on the desired customer dining experience and incorporating human sensory attributes of an individual or group to produce positive results for both customers and the restaurants they serve.

Users of The Jolly App can configure any of the 20 different sample experiences, or create their own, to be matched with hundreds of restaurants using features related to the five human senses that are more likely to produce a more positive restaurant experience. Amenities, nearby recreations, proximity to services, cuisine, menu items, distance, price range, service type, and more can also be entered into the single search bar to produce the best matches for the user.

The Jolly App was created in Bend, Oregon by a former restaurant owner and a software engineer with a driving desire to build a better, more useful restaurant search engine than the current, often questionable review-based systems. The true essence of a great restaurant will not be found inside someone else’s review, but only by meeting as many of the customers’ needs as possible. It must be pleasing to the human senses, provide great service and be a good value, to create return or referral business.

Jolly App co-founder Roy Slicker said, “When we go out for a meal, the experience we have will often dictate how we feel about the time and money we invested in a restaurant, and whether we go back or not. I’ve also had mixed feelings about trusting other people’s reviews, almost as if they set expectations ahead of time. We all have different needs. I look back now and realize that I sort of stuck to the same places over and over because I liked the whole experience.” He added, “This app takes a totally new approach, in part by connecting customers to restaurants that are more likely to meet both cuisine desires and the underlying things that please our human senses the most. It filters out things we don’t like, and for the benefit of restaurant management, it feeds back all the user search data in order of importance and relevance to their business. Things that work can be elevated or enhanced and things that people avoid, like music that’s too loud, lack of printed menus or bright lighting for a dating experience (as an example) can then be adjusted to attract, connect and retain more customers.”

The Jolly App is now available on both Apple and Google app sites and matches users with over 350 restaurants in Deschutes County and now over 175 in Monterey County in California, including Carmel, Carmel Valley, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Monterey. The number of restaurants in both areas continue to grow quickly as more restaurants claim their business on the Jolly App website. Claiming and listing a restaurant on The Jolly App anywhere in the U.S. is free.

Slicker went on to say, “Deschutes County has become a hotbed for new restaurants with a variety of cuisines and a very high number of venues per capita. It is also a place where restaurants come and go, many because they are often not discovered in time or the overall experience they offer is missing some key ingredients for success. The Jolly App provides important user search data back to restaurants that can help management

discover trends and provide insights into what attributes work and which ones may be driving customers away. Even the difference between QR code vs. printed menus can be searched and tracked to determine what to offer” He added, “While location can play a role in success or failure, great restaurants can be in weird places and it’s more likely they’ve created a popular must-have experience.”
