Improper Registration of Voters

Oregon Association of County Clerks (OACC) was notified Monday, October 7, by the Secretary of State’s Elections Division, that there were an additional 302 potential Non-USA Citizens registered to vote throughout the State of Oregon per an error from the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles. This was the third such notification provided by the SOS-Elections Division to counties within the past month.

The SOS-Elections Division provided guidance to counties on how to handle the records of people who were improperly registered. These directed steps were followed and have been completed by every affected county.

Due to the timing of counties receiving notice of this error, a ballot may have been mailed to some of these individuals. However, all of these ballots have been inactivated and will not be counted. Elections officials will stop them at the ballot intake stage.

OACC is committed to secure and transparent elections. The association will continue to prioritize the integrity of our elections while diligently following any instructions and guidance received by the Oregon Secretary of State’s Elections.

Oregon Clerks and Elections Officials follow state and federal laws, counting every eligible ballot cast in each election, while keeping and maintaining safeguards so that ineligible ballots are not counted.
