Shifting the U.S. into a positive frame of mind through the magical power of sidewalk chalk on August 19.
Always bring your own sunshine, share a smile, yes you can, you are loved, today I am thankful. Those are just some of the uplifting messages chalked on sidewalks across at least 47 states and in six countries during the third annual Chalk the Walks in 2013. Check the sidewalks around Bend on August 19 and you’re likely to find similar messages of inspiration, joy and love as Heart ‘n Home Hospice & Palliative Care hosts the Bend event to spread joy, optimism and inspiration to our community.
“Heart n’ Home wanted to participate in Chalk the Walks because it coincides with our family core values,” said Wendy Rudy, outreach coordinator. “Sponsoring this event is a fun way to give back to our community, spread joy to our patients and to encourage others to embrace these core values in their own organizations.

People participating in Chalk the Walks across the nation will chalk the sidewalks with positive messaging in front of their homes and businesses, then post photos of their chalked messages on the Chalk the Walks 2014! Facebook event page (Facebook.com/chalkthewalks), creating a virtual playground of inspiration and optimism. People in the Bend area are invited to join the chalking fun at Heart ‘n Home, 920 SW Emkay Ste. 104 Bend (across from Deschutes Brewery) from 12 to 1:30 on August 19, chalk and snacks provided. The Summit, Fox Hollow, The Heights, The Ochoco Village are also participating and will have chalk available.
Chalk the Walks, an international project of Vancouver, Washington-based non-profit, The Joy Team, is all about spreading joy, inspiration and optimism through the magical power of sidewalk chalk. Because so many things are most powerful when done collectively, we’re inviting people to spend 10 minutes outside on August 19th writing a positive message in chalk on their sidewalks, driveways or parking lots.
