The Central Oregon Small Farm School is back for its second year, and registration is open! This event for small-scale farmers and agriculturalists will take place on March 29 at the Central Oregon Agricultural Show in Redmond at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds. For $40, attendees will gain access to a diverse selection of sessions, taught by leading experts in the industry.
This year’s Small Farm School offers 12 engaging classes covering a variety of topics aimed at building essential skills for farm operations. Attendees will pick three to build their knowledge, from irrigation management and conservation planning to marketing with AI and grant writing, the event provides practical, actionable knowledge for farmers at every stage of their journey. This event is geared toward business owners, landowners, small farmers, ranchers, and growers, and agricultural professionals.
Choose from classes ranging in the following topics:
- Business: Options include marketing with AI, grant writing, and a farmer CSA panel
- Irrigation: Classes ranging in irrigation district panel, drip irrigation, and “Irrigation 201”
- Planning Grant Writing: Get guidance on succession planning, conservation planning, and analyzing return on investment
- Science and Pasture Succession Planning: learn about toxic plants in pasture, the avian influenza, and pastures in times of drought.

The Central Oregon Small Farm School is co-produced by local organizations School of Ranch, Deschutes Soil & Water Conservation District, and High Desert Food & Farm Alliance in association with the Central Oregon OSU Extension Office. Its goal is to provide small farmers with practical tools and knowledge to help grow their businesses and operations.
