After more than 20 years in the same brick-and-mortar location, and over 30 years of continuous publishing, Cascade Publications Inc. (CPI) is now 100% remote.
Without realizing it at the time, the process started during the 2010 economic crisis. We had to become nimble and do more with less. Using more contractors and freelancers helped us survive that tough time. We didn’t need the full office space after that, so we rented offices out to a couple of nonprofits at a very discounted rate.
Fast forward to the COVID outbreak… the office wasn’t being used, and we started the process of getting an offsite server that we could access from anywhere in the world, switching to online services like QuickBooks, etc.
Admittedly, the change didn’t come without a few hiccups. We published a photo with a story that didn’t belong, and we had a couple of big typos this spring — mistakes that were clearly related to switching to the new format. However, I believe we have those issues fixed.
We recently hired a new content proofreader, a local full-time student at OSU-Cascades, Emma Carpenter. You can read more about her on page 28 in our Who’s Who section of tomorrow’s edition. We have also hired a new representative to help with community events, photos, and sales. More on her later!
Our phone number is still 541-388-5665, and our emails are all the same. Our new mailing address is PO Box 53, Bend, OR 97707.
Thank you to all our advertisers and readers these past 30 years! Cheers to 30 more!
CPI publishes Cascade Business News, Cascade A&E Magazine, Sunriver Magazine, and The Book of Lists, as well as digital publications: E-Headlines and AEWeekly.
