Hatfield Lecture Returns
We are thrilled to announce the return of the Doc and Connie Hatfield Sustainable Resource Lecture on Thursday, November 11!
This year features Nikki Silvestri, the founder and CEO of Soil and Shadow, a consulting firm that works in the agricultural sphere to bring social and environmental entrepreneurs more impact in their work and joy in their lives.
Silvestri has traveled the world speaking about and strengthening social equity for underrepresented populations in food systems, social services, public health, climate solutions and economic development. Her numerous honors include the OxFam America’s Act Local, Think Global Award and being named one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans.
This lecture series honors the passion and work of Doc and Connie Hatfield, ranchers from Brothers, Oregon who were committed to developing partnerships to further sustainability in the High Desert.

Discover a Land of Fire & Ice at the High Desert Museum Virtual Natural History Pub
The first Monday of the month means another Virtual Natural History Pub! Monday, November 1 at 7pm, grab your favorite cold beverage, put your feet up and logon for A Land of Fire and Ice: Forest Resilience in Central Oregon.
Fire can have dire consequences for those in its path. How can adaptations of forests in the face of natural disturbances be beneficial to biodiversity? Join Ariel Cowen, regional fire specialist, and Thomas D. Stokely, forestry and natural resources extension agent from Oregon State University Extension, for the story of how fire has shaped the lives of various organisms throughout Central Oregon.
