At Bend Park & Recreation District there are numerous construction and improvement projects under-way. One notable improvement is the new solar panel array at the District office at Riverbend Park.
Covering a large portion of the District administration building’s roof, the newly finished 42.9 kW system is expected to generate over 55,000 kW of electricity annually. This translates into a savings of over $3000 annually in direct energy cost for the Park District.
To commemorate the new system, the public is invited to a Solar Panel Celebration on August 20 at 1pm at the District office. District staff will unveil the system’s energy-savings data kiosk as well as host light snacks and beverages.
Following the ceremony, at 1:30pm, a free Solar 101 class will be open to the public. It will cover the basics of solar, the BPRD installation and tax incentives that homeowners can take advantage of if they choose to go solar. A question and answer forum will take place after the class to address any interests not covered in the course.
Installed by Sunlight Solar, the solar panel array was made possible by several grants from The Oregon Department of Energy, Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Renewable Energy and cash incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon. Pacific Power will be present during the celebration with information for homeowners regarding the Pacific Power Blue Sky program.
