Bend Pilates, a private Pilates studio on Bend’s westside, has recently moved to a new location, allowing for expansion. The new space, located at 155 SW Century Drive, Suite 104, houses both a spacious area for group classes as well as a separate, private room for individual sessions.
Bend Pilates Owner Debby Mandeville-Bowen, the only Pilates instructor in Central Oregon who is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), opened her original studio in 2008 in conjunction with Rebound Physical Therapy. Within six months, the practice outgrew its space, due to a devoted and faithful clientele, and relocated to a larger facility nearby.
Now in its fifth year, Bend Pilates is again expanding to better serve its clients.
The Pilates Method incorporates stretching and strength exercises designed to balance the body, and targets the deep intrinsic, postural muscles that provide underlying support to the body. Additionally, Pilates increases flexibility, strength, balance, lung capacity, endurance, bone density and energy while helping to develop body awareness.
“Pilates has proven invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor, but also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds,” explains Mandeville-Bowen.
Active Release Technique (ART) provider Mark DeJohn now shares space with Bend Pilates. DeJohn says the move was a natural fit for both businesses, as they each focus on the treatment of existing injuries as well as a full body awareness to prevent new injuries.
Bend Pilates offers both equipment and mat classes, in group and private settings, and its instructors are qualified to teach classical exercises, or modify them as needed for individual clients. The new Bend Pilates studio is simple and modern, with an abundance of natural light, providing an elegant and tranquil atmosphere conducive to the transformation of both mind and body. Bend Pilates offers a free 15-minute session for people who are interested in trying the method.
