Hospice of Redmond has partnered with General Duffy’s Waterhole and Dustin Riley Events to host Bingo Blitz on Tuesday nights in February in support of children attending Camp Sunrise this June.
Camp Sunrise is an annual bereavement camp for children ages seven to 14 who reside in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties and is offered at no charge. Structured games, music, art, stories and other therapies teach the children about grief and how to understand their feelings. With support by professionals, trained staff and volunteers, children share their experiences and gain skills to help them begin moving through the healing process.
“The camp is truly founded on the understanding that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a safe, supportive and understanding environment. With loving support, children grieving a death can share their experience with acceptance as they move through the healing process. It can be a scary and challenging process, but we are here to help the children and families understand how to grieve and begin to heal,” said Diane Kellstrom, Bereavement Coordinator for Hospice of Redmond.
Hospice of Redmond also offers specially designed sessions for parents, which provide skills to strengthen their understanding of how to be an effective support system for their children. Post-camp support is offered to the campers’ parents to further enhance the grieving child’s journey to health. To support and spread awareness about Camp Sunrise, Hospice of Redmond is hosting Bingo Blitz Tuesdays in February at General Duffy’s Waterhole: Redmond’s Best FUNdraiser and home to “The Give Back,” giving back to our community while giving more to our guests. Bingo Blitz is maximizing the FUN in FUNdraising! Dustin Riley Events produces the high-energy atmosphere that puts bingo on everyone’s bucket list.
Bingo Blitz is extraordinary bingo flipped on its head, with four rounds of high-energy bingo played in two hours, stuffed with prizes, surprises and live entertainment. General Duffy’s Waterhole is a local tap house and food cart gathering; dedicated to delivering the people of Redmond and Central Oregon an exciting, authentic, new experience to enjoy. The tap room opens for the event at 6pm and the entrance fee is $5. Bingo games start at 6:30pm and end around 8:30pm.
“Our goal with Bingo Blitz is to raise enough money to be able to send one child to Camp Sunrise,” said Maureen Dooley from Hospice of Redmond. “Each year, Hospice of Redmond can put on Camp Sunrise through our own funds as well as generous donors throughout the community, in order to ensure that children can attend free of charge. Camp Sunrise is always free for the families who attend, as this support for children experiencing these traumatic events in their lives is so necessary throughout our community. Bingo Blitz is not only a fun event, but also allows us to make the community aware of this program and raise funds to send more children to Camp Sunrise.”
