Local firm, CA Rowles Engineering, has not only survived one of the toughest economic climates Central Oregon has seen in recent memory, but after 10 years in business they are now thriving and planning for tremendous growth over the next 10 years.
“[Ten years ago] I had been working for another local engineering firm as a civil and building design engineer and grown to the point where I needed to step out on my own and manage and direct my own future, and I wanted to try to run my own firm,” commented Owner Charlie Rowles.
“Through these 10 years we’ve learned the value of having those one on one relationships with our clients,” he continued. “That allows them to feel like they are being heard and have access to us during the design and review process. Our goal is to make sure our clients feel like they are being heard, their plans and decisions are being completed and strong working relationships are achieved.”
Highlights over the 10 years of business include the design and construction of the Redmond Design Center, a destination for building and interior design professionals in the Northwest; the Butler Aircraft hangar at Madras Airport, a 39,550 sq ft building built by the City of Madras for maintenance of Butler’s DC-7 air tanker fleet; and the Arbor Building, a 14,100 sq ft building offering office space and commercial flex space.
The recession hit C A Rowles hard, as 85 percent of their business dropped off during those years. “Through strong relationships built over our work history here in Central Oregon, we were able to sustain our business though a lot of tenant improvement plans,” Rowles said.
Current projects include a potential subdivision, renovation plans for a memory care facility and many other civil and building design projects. With civil and architectural licensing in California, Oregon and Washington, the range of opportunities is expanding. The future is bright for the business; the firm employs a civil engineer and architect in addition to Rowles, and is looking to grow the staff to 12-15 in the next 10 years.
