In the strange times of today, when we have all been asked to stay home and socially isolate, there is a silver lining. More time with family, time to stop and take a deep breath and time to reconnect with our health and focus on connection with our food and nourishing cooking. It is also a time to think about sustainability. When the very fabric of our society has been torn apart and will eventually need to be rebuilt, what will our conventional food systems look like? Who can we trust to grow, raise and deliver clean, healthy, nutrient-dense food to our tables? Local farmers and ranchers are here for us. They have always been essential. No matter what else is happening in the world outside of our little community, their fortitude remains unchanged.

Central Oregon Locavore Non Profit is your direct connection to the farmers and ranchers of our region. And as a community, we must support our local growers and raisers. With the closure of restaurants and farmers markets postponed, many farmers have large crops planted to meet the high demand, but are now unsure if the demand will be enough.

That’s where you come in.

You can directly support our local farmers and ranchers by procuring your food at Central Oregon Locavore, where the products sold generate a living wage payment back to the farmers, and affordable prices to our consumers.

Central Oregon Locavore has been a leading force in the local food scene for more than ten years. And never before has the need to shop safe and shop local been more important than now. As a nonprofit, we keep our markup very low — well below the industry standard — to ensure farmers are paid well, and customers can afford to eat locally, on a budget. We compensate for losses in our marketplace with our membership program and fundraising efforts.

As a verified 501(c)(3), COL’s far-reaching community support is more than just a brick and mortar, year-round indoor farmer’s market stocked full of locally sourced food and artisan crafts; it is an entire system of programs designed to help local farmers and local consumers work together towards a goal of environmentally sustainable living through food, education, collaboration and celebration!

During this quarantine, COL is able to keep it’s doors open due to a strong membership base and donations from the community. With our regularly scheduled fundraising events on hold, we are in need of more memberships to help us stay open and ready to serve you! (Varying levels of memberships offering discounts off your grocery bill are available). COL has implemented a masking policy, increased sanitation measures and is offering curbside pickup for those who are at risk or immune-compromised. Like other businesses remaining open, COL is taking this very seriously as the health of our employees and customers is a priority.

PLEASE consider supporting COL’s decade-long objective of delivering nutrient dense food to our community by shopping at Locavore, becoming a member and donating to our mission.. For more info please visit, centralorgeonlocavore.org and get involved.
