The Redmond City Council voted unanimously to award the Evergreen Elementary Rehabilitation Project design services contract to FFA Architecture + Interiors Inc. (FFA). The Council said FFA was chosen based on their project team’s extensive experience with historic rehabilitation projects. The intent of the Evergreen Elementary Rehabilitation Project is to preserve the historic integrity of the main structure, a 1922 Redmond Historic Landmark, and adaptively repurpose it as a modern City Hall & Civic Center.
“This is the type of project that we love,” said Troy Ainsworth, Principal at FFA Architects and Design. “Having the opportunity to breathe new life into a much-loved community landmark, while keeping its historic integrity intact, is both an honor and a privilege.”
The FFA project team will begin the space planning and design process this month and finalize the design in summer of 2015. “FFA Architecture is renown throughout the Pacific Northwest for their historic rehabilitation projects. They are very familiar with the building codes and how to apply them to historic properties, especially historic properties being repurposed for another use,” comments Heather Richards, community development director. “This expertise is critical for the Evergreen project. We are lucky to have FFA on our team.”
FFA will join previously approved Skanska Construction to form the core team who will work with City staff and stakeholders to design and rehabilitate Evergreen. Construction is expected to begin in fall of 2015 and be ready for occupancy by late 2016.
