The City invites the community to learn more about the Hawthorne Overcrossing pedestrian and bicycle bridge project and to review four bridge-type options at an open house, either in person or online.
The City will soon select the design of a new bridge for walking, biking and rolling on Hawthorne Avenue between Hill Street to Second Street for safer passage over US 97 and the railroad.
The in-person open house is from 4:30-6:30pm on Wednesday, July 10, at the Campfire Hotel, Outpost Meeting Room, 721 NE Third Street. Park on Greeley Avenue. The meeting room is located across Greeley Avenue from the main hotel.
The online open house is available at bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings now through July 17.
Project designers and City staff will be available to provide information on the Hawthorne Overcrossing bridge type options, answer questions and listen to feedback.
Improving the transportation system by focusing on safety is a City Council goal. Creating safer connections between neighborhoods, places of work, schools, parks and businesses, for people who ride bikes, walk or roll, is a City priority. The City is designing a variety of safer and more accessible bike and pedestrian routes throughout the community, including the Midtown Crossings project, aimed at linking the Central District to Downtown Bend.
Midtown Crossings includes improvements to four key connectors in the area for people who ride bikes, walk and roll:
- Greenwood Avenue: Corridor and undercrossing quick-build improvements and long-term planning
- Franklin Avenue: Corridor and undercrossing improvements
- Second Street: Streetscape improvements
- Hawthorne Overcrossing: Preliminary design for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge
The July open house is focused on the Hawthorne Overcrossing. Learn more at bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings.
