Central Oregon Community College is hosting a commemoration ceremony for Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday, April 15 in Wille Hall in the Campus Center on the Bend Campus. Doors open at 5pm The event is free and open to the public.
The film A Secret, which will be screened at 5:30pm, is a French-produced film that traces the impact of World War II upon a young boy who was born after the war. As he discovers his family’s secrets, he learns about the French Jews who suffered under a Nazi-allied regime and how this experience shaped their self-understanding into the 1950s and ‘60s.
After the film, Jessica Hammerman, assistant professor of world history, will lead a discussion about the contemporary situation for Jews in France, followed by a memorial ceremony led by Rabbi Johanna Hershenson. Refreshments will be provided.
The event is presented by the COCC Historical Club and the COCC Jewish Students Club.
