The biomechanics laboratory led by Oregon State University – Cascades and private partners will host a public presentation with Michael Caravelli, M.D. of The Center in Bend. The presentation, Using 3D Motion Analysis to Ease Joint Pain will explore the latest treatment options for lower extremity osteoarthritis and the technology used in the FORCE Lab to assist individuals with knee pain. The lecture takes place on Monday, August 18.
Caravelli, a former collegiate and professional baseball player, is an orthopedic surgeon and expert on osteoarthritis. He received a fellowship from the University of California at San Francisco Department of Orthopedic Surgery Adult Reconstruction.
Christine Pollard, associate professor and director of the FORCE Lab will lead a demonstration of 3D motion analysis, a process using a suite of technology, including a state-of-the-art research grade motion analysis system to capture human movement and two force plates to measure joint loading during activities such as walking or descending stairs. Pollard received a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts in exercise science with an emphasis in biomechanics. She received a Master of Science in physical therapy from Pacific University.
The Functional Orthopedic Research Center of Excellence, known as the FORCE Lab, is led by researchers at OSU-Cascades, in partnership with Therapeutic Associates-Bend Physical Therapy, The Center Orthopedic & Neurological Care & Research and The Center Foundation. It opened in May 2013.
The presentation is free and starts at 6pm. Doors open at 5:30pm. No registration is required. The FORCE Lab is located within The Center at Therapeutic Associates at 2200 NE Neff Rd, #202 in Bend.
