FORJ Executive Director Speaks on Rural Journalism Panel

Jody Lawrence-Turner joined other rural community advocates at the April 19 Rural Development Initiative Regards to Rural conference where she spoke on a panel titled “Uplifting Rural Voices: Amplifying Authentic Storytelling through Rural Journalism.”

Erin Borla from The Roundhouse Foundation moderated the panel discussion, which also featured Chelsea Marr with the Columbia Gorge News, and Ben Shors who is chair of the journalism program at Washington State University.

Jody shared insights into the role journalism plays in the health of local communities and urged leaders at the conference to build support for journalism into their strategic planning.

“Journalism needs to be a part of community and economic development strategies to help communities thrive. It is a fundamental building block of a strong community.”
