First it was global communications…and now local communications can be woven together by fibers of glass. There’s a new high speed fiber cable ring through Downtown Bend, Oregon and The Old Mill District and it’s already providing multi-Gigabit bandwidth connections to businesses. (Gigabit bandwidth is 1,000 Mbps download and 1,000 Mbps upload speed.)
As businesses increasingly rely on remote applications and cloud based services, the need for bandwidth, especially upload speed, has increased exponentially. That’s why the high fiber count and ring topology used in the new network were chosen –to provide a very high density network and to supply fiber services to as many locations as are interested.
Who is Behind the Gigabit Fiber Network?
The company behind the Gigabit fiber project, BendTel, designed this network to work seamlessly in the new high demand environment – both today and in the future. Says BendTel CEO Tom Barrett, “Our initial Metro Ethernet offerings are multi-gigabit capable, but we are providing plans that work with all types of budgets, often in line with or even less than what businesses are paying today. One of our main goals is to make very high speed access available and affordable to as many Bend businesses, existing and future, as possible.”
