Governor Kate Brown was in Bend on January 23 and took time to tour E2 Solar’s newly constructed zero-net energy building and met with members from the Oregon Solar Energy Industry Association to discuss energy and policy in Oregon.
Governor Brown was receptive to hearing about the needs of the industry, including updates on the new Oregon Solar + Storage Rebate Program that launched January 22. The program issues solar rebates for solar electric systems and paired solar and solar storage systems for residential customers and low-income service providers in Oregon. The initial opening enrollment has already reserved more than half of the rebate funds in only a few days, clearly indicating the need for more funding for the program. E2 Solar president Kelli Hewitt said, “We are extremely honored to have the governor visit, to listen to the challenges and opportunities the solar industry faces and to be a champion of creating clean energy jobs while protecting our environment.”
E2 Solar’s new headquarters, located at 20784 High Desert Lane in Bend, hosted the meeting and demonstrated features such as a 35.2kW solar array, a Sonnen EcoLinx energy storage system that integrates clean energy with intelligent automation and safe battery technology. Since taking occupancy of the building in the spring of 2019, E2 Solar has generated 45,000 kilowatts hours, enough to completely power its building and two more average homes.
