Youth working in the Central Oregon Youth Corps consider future careers.

Today, over 90 youth from the Central Oregon Youth Conservation Corps run collaboratively by the Forest Service, Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council and Heart of Oregon Corps will spend the day exploring careers with a variety of Forest Service natural resource specialists.

The 16-18 year-old youth, who have worked for seven weeks on a range of resource management projects, will gather at Wildcat Campground on the Ochoco National Forest from 9:30am to 2:30pm on Thursday, August 11 to discuss education and work experience requirements for 15 different natural resource careers. Representing youth from across Central Oregon – Crescent to Madras – the 17 youth crews will rotate around the 15 job booths during the day.

Throughout the summer, the Central Oregon Youth Conservation Corps crews have maintained trails, cleared fire fuels, and refurbished signage and fencingon the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and the Crooked River National Grassland. Through their work the youth learned job skills, earned income, and have becomethe next generation of conservationists.
