IT experts remain at the top of the most in-demand and highly paid professions in 2022, and the situation is unlikely to change in the next decade. But it is worth realizing that the IT field combines dozens of different specialties. For example, there are those who can create a such called “lista kasyn internetowych”, which means “list of online casinos” in English, while others can sell it. Some of them get big salaries: others are more than modest. Not every IT specialist will find a job quickly – many areas are already oversaturated, and it is hardly worth doing it for a living.

According to Clutch, there were over 250,000 IT professionals in Poland at the beginning of 2022, and the number is only growing. The simplified procedure for obtaining a one-year national visa for IT specialists under the Poland Business Harbour program contributes greatly to this. It allows IT specialists, including those from Ukraine, to work officially in IT companies in Poland without having to obtain additional work permits. The same applies to the registration of the individual entrepreneurial activity.

So, What to Expect in 2023?

Poland is gradually becoming a big Eastern European IT hub. Because of the war in Ukraine, a large number of product and outsourcing companies have moved to the country, which expands the opportunities for the Polish IT sector and can potentially attract even more investors.

If we add to the above a number of international agreements in this area between the EU and India, the EU and Japan, as well as internal trends in the European Union to strengthen its position in the global IT market, the prospects for the industry in Poland in 2023 are rather optimistic. The main risks are contingencies due to the war in Ukraine and potential global changes in the economy.

Due to the ongoing labor migration of IT specialists, there is a probability of an even greater shift in the “Demand/Supply” ratio in the direction of supply. In this case, IT companies will have even more opportunities to impose their conditions on potential employees. In this case, due to increased competition, IT specialists, especially non-technical specialties, will have to improve their skills even more to play an important role – no bonuses here.

If we talk about demand, it will be correlated in accordance with global trends. More and more IT companies are shifting their focus to the Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Asian markets as an alternative to Europe and the US. This means that IT specialists with good local language and domain knowledge will be more competitive against the rest. The trend of demand for experienced IT specialists of non-technical specialties will also be observed in 2023.
