With a combine 35 years culinary experience Jon Barvels and Joel Cordes, owners of El Sancho, say they, “decided to open a mobile business because it was a quick startup with low overhead that offered a lot of flexibility in growth and future plans. Our inspiration was good authentic Mexican food, freedom, flexibility, a creative outlet, traveling and sharing enjoyment we had experienced eating out of food carts around the world.”

In May 2014, husband and wife duo Rich and Patty Carpenter decided that they wanted to offer a mobile sharpening service in order to provide a more convenient service for customers. “Instead of customers packing up their items and bringing them to us we can go to them, that way they can continue to operate their business and it saves them time. We are now sharpening kitchen knives, hunting knives, pocket knives, salon and barber scissors, fabric scissors, pinking shears, medical scissors, sewing and utility scissors, clipper blades, planer blades, chipper blades, hand pruners and loppers in Bend, Redmond and Sisters. We would like to expand to Prineville and La Pine and are considering adding a second mobile unit to accomplish our goal.”

Ella Snapp has been meeting a variety of Central Oregonians’ in-home needs as a stylist and caregiver for many years. “I bring the salon to my clients at an affordable and fair price. Convenience and service are the key factors. Being a caregiver through the State of Oregon enables me to assist with different situations that may arise and my clients have found this valuable. Eventually my intention is to make HouseCalls a Statewide company.”

Mariah Young, founder of Wildflower Mobile Boutique explains, “I always had the desire to own a shop but was concerned about the time commitment of owning a brick and mortar. Since I am a full time mom I need something that gives me flexibility. I saw a fashion truck on Pinterest and was inspired. The fashion truck reflected my style and that of Bend, Oregon. Having experience driving big rigs on farms growing up in Eastern Oregon has been a huge asset.” Young looks forward to growing online sales and, “would love to someday have another truck dedicated to shoes.”
