More than 60 students at Oregon State University – Cascades this fall served in the United States military. Among them are students pursuing degrees in computer science, energy systems engineering, kinesiology and natural resources.
Of the active duty veterans enrolled this fall:
-9 are women
-The oldest is 57; the youngest is 24
-43 represent Central Oregon, 11 are from elsewhere in Oregon and nine are from outside the state
-Of those residing in Central Oregon, 27 are from Bend, six are from Redmond, two are from La Pine, two are from Terrebonne, two are from Sunriver. The communities of Madras, Prineville, Sisters and Warm Springs each represent one student veteran
In recent years, OSU-Cascades has developed services and resources for student veterans and veterans in the community. The Career Development office provides resources for student veterans to assist with the transition from military to college life, and to a civilian career.
In addition, through the graduate counseling program’s clinic, free counseling is offered to veterans in the community, as well as to all community members. Counseling sessions provided by the clinic are facilitated by graduate students under the guidance of faculty and clinical supervisors
