Central Oregon Social Justice Center’s First Year Anniversary Party

The First Year Anniversary Celebration of the Central Oregon Social Justice Center will be held December 6 from 5-8pm at the Central Oregon Social Justice Center. The realization of a long-held vision to create a space dedicated to social justice in Central Oregon, the Social Justice Center houses community and social justice groups, local labor unions, and law firms under one roof.

The Center is ahead of its time as the only place in Oregon where such a diverse group of social justice allies share the same infrastructure, office, and working space. After settling in the physical space since opening in Fall 2012, the Social Justice Center is now expanding to build a broader coalition of community, faith, social justice, environmental, and labor organizations working in solidarity to create a more just, welcoming and vibrant community in Central Oregon.

“More than two dozen local groups are already working together to find ways to better support each other, coordinate efforts, and more effectively pursue common goals and visions with the Center as a foundation,” says Bruce Morris, volunteer Center Coordinator.

The First Year Anniversary Party will feature guest speakers from the community, information about the Center’s future projects, and peeks at its brand new website and coalition calendar. Home-cooked food, beverages, and desserts will be served.

Co-sponsoring organizations include: Central Oregon Jobs With Justice, Human Dignity Coalition, First Presbyterian Church of Bend Peace and Justice Team and Green Team, CAUSA Oregon, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Central Oregon Labor Council, Rural Organizing Project, Central Oregon Strong Voice, Human Dignity Advocates, Hecht & Norman, Immigration Attorneys, Immigration Law Group, United Food and Commercial Workers.
