Worthy Environmental Lecture Series Begins!

Don’t miss our first talk of the year when we host Dr. David Dedrick and his talk on Dark Skies and the Effects of Light Pollution on Human Health!

We often think of dark skies as important for astronomers and star gazers, but the effects of light pollution touch on so many more aspects of the biological world — including our own health. All that extra light at night is causing us more trouble than we realize. Please join us at Worthy Brewing on February 22, 2023 at 6pm for a deep dive into this fascinating and cutting edge topic led by Dr. David Dedrick, a specialist in sleep medicine.

Dr. Dedrick is a medical doctor who practiced medicine in Bend, OR for twenty years before his retirement 2019. His career covered a myriad of subjects in the pulmonary wards, the ICU, administration, research and the sleep lab. He was medical director of the St. Charles Sleep Center from 2007 until his retirement in 2019, and has since has taken a keen interest in education and outreach on the impact our circadian rhythms have on our personal health. Over the years he has worked with the school board, the state fire association and local law enforcement groups to educate and advise how to best mitigate the issues of excess light exposure at night, circadian phase misalignment, and shift work sleep disorders. He has taken a particular interest in how Dark Skies can have a significant impact on our local community.

His talk on February 22 at the Worthy Hop Majal will be an interesting dive into light pollution and its effects on human circadian rhythms.
