Oregonians have until October 12 to submit photos for the 2017-18 edition of the Blue Book.

On the eve of World Photo Day, the Oregon Secretary of State encourages Oregonians to submit their photo entries for the cover of the 2017-18 Oregon Blue Book. The Oregon Blue Book is the official state fact book about all levels of government in Oregon, Oregon’s arts and history organizations, our education systems, our elections history, our economy and how various levels of government are financed. Published every odd-numbered year since 1911, the Oregon Blue Book is compiled, edited and produced by the Oregon State Archives, a division of the Secretary of State’s office.

“The photo contest for the cover of the Oregon Blue Book is a time-honored tradition,” said Secretary of State Jeanne P. Atkins. “I encourage Oregonians to grab a camera and get outside. Oregon offers limitless beauty and inspiration and, like those before it, our next Blue Book cover will capture the Oregon spirit.”

Photographers are encouraged to use the 2017-18 Blue Book theme of outdoor recreation as inspiration. Photos must be taken in Oregon and other contest guidelines and entry forms are online at: http://bluebook.state.or.us/misc/cover/front.htm. The deadline for submission is October 12, 2016. The cover photo contest is open to all amateur photographers who are Oregon residents.

In recent years, the Secretary of State has worked to make sure that all Oregon counties are represented in the Oregon Blue Book. To date, these counties have not been featured on the front cover of the Blue Book. Photographers are encouraged to consider these counties for their submissions:

Benton, Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Crook, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Josephine, Lake, Morrow, Polk, Sherman, Tillamook, Union, Wasco, Washington, Wheeler and Yamhill.

“Photographers from all over the world will be celebrating World Photo Day,” said Atkins. “Oregonians are fortunate to have some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes possible to photograph in their back yard.”

World Photo Day is an international photography event on August 19th that celebrates photography. You can see a collection of prior Oregon Blue Book covers here: http://bluebook.state.or.us/facts/scenic/bb100/covers/bb100homecov.htm.

Photos that meet contest guidelines and are entered electronically or are postmarked on/before October 12, 2016 will be considered. The winners will be notified by December 31, 2016.
