Senior Day at the High Desert Museum

The High Desert Museum is offering free admission to everyone 65 years and older on Wednesday, May 13. Senior Day is a rare opportunity for seniors to enjoy the incredible wildlife, meaningful history, and artful exhibits offered at the Museum at no cost.

“We have some wonderful exhibits featured right now, and are excited to offer seniors the opportunity to enjoy them at no cost,” said the museum’s executive director, Dana Whitelaw, Ph.D. “The museum is a great place to gather with friends and family, learn about our regional history and have some fun.”

Tours will be offered of the Museum’s permanent exhibits as well as two of its temporary exhibits. Growing Up Western depicts how different life was for women and children in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibit includes historic photographs, artifacts and treasured toys that offer a glimpse into the rugged, yet often joyful lives of the region’s settlers.Brewing Culture: The Craft of Beer highlights the history of brewing, the ingredients used in craft beers, the brewing process, and the culture of the craft brewing industry.

In addition, visitors are invited to explore Deadly by Nature: Venom and Poison,an exhibition that includes live animals that have adapted to use toxins for self-preservation.

There also will be wildlife talks throughout the day.

Senior Day is sponsored by PacificSource Medicare. “We’re grateful to PacificSource for making it possible for us to honor our seniors by opening our doors to them at no charge on Senior Day.”

The Museum will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The museum’s café and store both will be open.
